The sustainable alternative to clay granules (hydro granules)
Many garden enthusiasts are currently using hydro granules. This is probably due to their good permeability, robustness against mold and high stability. The natural clay material does not decay and will not collapse after a long time. What many of us do not know is that the production process of hydro granules is extremely CO2-intensive. First, the raw clay is cleaned and homogenized. The material is then dried in a rotary kiln at a temperature of approximately 800°C while the clay is simultaneously crushed and granulated. Only now does the material get its characteristic shape during the expansion process. For this, they have to go back into the rotary kiln, but this time at a higher temperature of no less than 1200°C. The CO2 footprint of hydro granules is therefore correspondingly high. COMPO Bio Granuplant is a 100% natural pumice stone and a sustainable and CO2-reducing alternative to Hydro granules.
What can COMPO Bio Granuplant be used for?
- as a drainage layer at the bottom of pots: the granules return water to the roots as needed, thus protecting the plants against waterlogging and root rot.
- for hydroponics and semi-hydroponics: the granules ensure optimal water and air supply to the roots.
- as ground cover in pots: the granules create a modern top layer that prevents the potting soil from drying out.
- for mixing with potting soil: if the granules are mixed with the potting soil, better air and water circulation is achieved.
